An illuminated Quran, North India, circa 1700 Arabic manuscript on paper, 372ff., 15 lines to the page, written in neat naskh in black ink, each line in cloudy gilded bands, each page with gold floral scrolling borders, verses separated by gold dots, surah headings in white cursive against a gold ground, blue rectangular and circular verse markes in the margins. The manuscript opens with a polychrome and gold illuminated frontispiece where the quranic text is written in white thuluth on gold roundels, followed by the sura al-baqara crowned by an illuminated and polychrome sarlowh. Red leather binding. 15 x 10 cm Provenance : French collection by inheritance.
