Deruta pitcher, c. 1520 Majolica in blue and gilt luster. Height 19.7 cm. Conservation: restored chipping to upper rim Provenance: former collection Raffaele Paparella Treccia, Pescara On foot with wide flared base rests the sphere-shaped body with high neck ending in an open triangular spout, set against the ribbon handle. The pictorial decoration sees on the foot and neck a band with pseudo-baccellations, on the body vertical compartments with large leafy plant decoration, trellis motif, and embrications. A similarly shaped jug is preserved in Paris, Musée de Cluny (J.Giacomotti, Catalogue des majoliques des musées nationaux, Paris 1974, no. 513)@@@ another is in Milan, Castello Sforzesco (see G.Busti-F.Cocchi, card in, R.Ausenda (ed.), Le ceramiche.
