Albarello Montelupo, 17th century Majolica. Height 31.7 cm. Conservation: some glaze fall@@@ chipping to upper edge. Cylindrical albarello covered with stanniferous glaze and decorated with the decorative motif of flowered and foliated girals in cobalt blue monochrome, "porcelain style." The apothecary plaque, profiled by a Mannerist frame with stylized masks, colored yellow and green, bears a pharmaceutical inscription "Lo CHi. Di POL.Mo: Di:VOLPe." Form, material, and decoration are consistent with seventeenth-century Montelupo Fiorentino production. From the late sixteenth century, Florentine pharmaceutical codes wrote that the powder of dried fox lung was considered a "magic" medicine against consumption.
