Carlo Antonio Grue dish, 1675 - 1680 Majolica. Diameter 34.5 cm. Conservation: very good@@ insignificant glaze skips at rim. Round dish with a wide brim with a thin support ring, thin-walled entirely covered with stanniferous glaze. The rim is profiled by a thin yellow-orange ribbon with a mock bakel drawn on it. The brim hosts a motif of broad foliate and flowery whorls in which five putti play. Two flank a noble plaque with a helmet and a white shield with a bull accompanied by three crowned eagles. The scene in the central medallion is derived from the vignette depicting Ismenus and Suleiman descending from the chariot, with Jerusalem in the distance, published in the 10th Canto of Torquato Tasso's "Gerusalemme Liberata" by Antonio Tempesta. A related subject in the same pictorial style decorates a plate in the Matricardi collection (C.Fiocco, G.Gherardi, G.Matricardi, Capolavori della maiolica castellana dal Cinquecento al Terzo fuoco. The Matricardi Collection, Turin 2012, p.151, n.106
