SIXTUS V: (1521-1590) Pope of the Roman Catholic Church 1585-90. Sixtus V is credited with crucial important changes and works during his short term Papacy, leading administration and financial reforms to restore the Papal States solvency, and also completing the Saint Peter´s dome and multiple huge urban reforms in Rome. Sixtus V excommunicated both Elizabeth I of England and Henry IV of France. Extremely rare L.S., ` Come fr[at] ello amorevole - Il Card. De Montalto´, one page, 4to, Rome, 12th April 1572, to Prior of S. Michele in Fano, in Italian. Sixtus V reports on Raffaele Aquilini, stating ` ...veduto da me et la persona sua et la bella opera che ha fatta...´ (Translation: "... seen by me and this person and the beautiful work he has done..."), further explaining to his correspondent that it has not been possible yet to arrange an audience for Aquilini with Pope Pius V, saying `...per le molte occupationi che le sono occorse, nondimeno quanto conoscero che sia tempo da introdurlo... non mancaro conservarne memoria...´ (Translation: "... for the many occupations that occurred to him, nevertheless as I know that it is time to introduce him... I will not fail to keep memory of it...") Pius V died only three weeks after the present letter was written. With address leaf, bearing remnants of a former red wax seal. Small overall age wear and creasing with slightly uneven right edge and a very small hole not affecting the text or signature. G Raffaele Aquilini was the author of a controversial work against Hebrew whch was dedicated to Pope Pius Vº
