´My dear Howard´). White states that he had expected to see Carter at the Savile Club (
´but you did not appear at lunch´) and continues to express his brief and belated thanks to Carter for his hospitality,
´I seem to be always enjoying hospitatlity!.....There was so much to see, & Tewkesbury Abbey stands out in my memory with its peculiar charm´, also mentioning a chaffinch which had fed from his hand and concluding
´I hope your plans are b eing carried out with the least possible annoyance. You have all my sympathy´. VG
