[ENIGMA MACHINE]: BALME DAVID (1920-2016) British Lieutenant Commander with the Royal Navy during World War II. Whilst serving as a navigator with HMS
Bulldog, Balme seized an Enigma Machine from a German U-boat on 9th May 1941 which subsequently allowed British intelligence officers at Bletchley Park to secretly intercept and decipher signals sent from Germany to its submarines for the remainder of the war.
