WHITEREAD RACHEL: (1963- ) English artist, the first woman to win the Turner Prize (1993). Signed 8 x 10 photograph of the artist in a head and shoulders pose with perhaps her most famous artwork, House (1993; demolished in 1994), situated on Grove Road, East London, in the immediate background. Signed by Whiteread in blue ink with her name alone to the lower white border. A pencil note in the hand of a collector to the verso indicates that the signature was obtained in person at the Belvedere 21 Museum of Contemporary Art in Vienna. EX It was for her artwork House , a concrete cast of the inside of an entire Victorian terraced house, that Whiteread won the Turner Prize in 1993.
