PRIESTLEY J. B.: (1894-1984) English novelist and playwright whose works include The Good Companions (1929) and An Inspector Calls (1945). T.L.S., J B Priestley, one page, 8vo (air mail stationery), Alveston, Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, 6th September 1972, to Dr. Majumdar. Priestley states that his correspondent is at liberty to use a brief quotation from an old article if he so wishes, although remarks ´I must add, however, that I am rather surprised you should choose something from an article written 40 years ago to represent me, as I would have thought there must be many later quotations that do it better´.
