BERGSON HENRI: (1859-1941) French philosopher, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1927. A.L.S., H. Bergson, two pages, small 8vo, Paris, 28th November 1910, to [Jean Bourdeau], in French. I had already read most of the studies that make up the book, but it is a great pleasure to read them again, one after the other. They illuminate and complete each other reciprocally; and their whole is summed up in a certain well-defined attitude of mind, which does not seem to me to be very far removed from the pragmatic attitude, in the best sense of the word; you judge theories - not without reason, in my opinion - according to the way they behave in the field of action'). With blank integral leaf. VG Jean Bourdeau (1848-1928) French writer, known for his books on aspects of socialism.
