CECIL ROBERT: (1864-1958) British lawyer, politician and diplomat, one of the architects of the League of Nations. Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1937. T.L.S.,
Robert Cecil, one page, 4to, Grosvenor Crescent, London, 27th April 1922, to Mrs. Lawrence Holt in Liverpool, on the printed stationery of the League of Nations Union. Cecil enquires as to whether his correspondent would be prepared to host a Drawing Room Meeting in aid of the League of Nations Union, remarking
´We are finding increasingly that Drawing-room Meetings given by well-known hostesses are a most useful method of educating people who very rarely go to public meetings in the work of the League of Nations Union´ and further adding
´We would supply one or two well-known speakers and, should you so desire it, would also send out all the invitations from a list to be supplied by you´. Some very light, extremely minor creasing, VG
Cecil´s correspondent was the wife of Lawrence Durning Holt (1882-1961) British businessman with an interest in shipping who served as Lord Mayor of Liverpool 1929-30.
