Large rectangular cylinder desk decorated on all sides with chevron marquetry in satin-finish veneer set in amaranth strips. The doucine top opens with a curved flap revealing a black leather-covered sliding top edged with a Grecian frieze and three drawers topped by three pigeonholes. The whole is supported by a base opening with four drawers, one of which is a chest, and two side pulls lined with black leather and edged with a Greek frieze. The straight uprights rest on four sheathed feet. Very fine ornamentation of chased and gilded bronzes: openwork gallery with frieze of circles, scrolled bands, finger handles, lingotière, keyhole, pull rings on macaron, dentil rings and set sabots. A cylinder desk sold by Christie's in 2018, stamped by BURY (fig.1) is similar to the one presented here. The latter features a stamp by Boudin, who marketed this piece of furniture, probably made by Bury. Similarly, a chest of drawers, after having been in the Double and Rikoff collections, was acquired by Count Isaac de Camondo, who bequeathed it to the Louvre. The Riesener stamp accompanies the Bury mark, demonstrating the two masters' collaboration. Ferdinand Bury was a renowned cabinetmaker who made all types of furniture, some of whose bronzes came from Antoine-André Ravrio, a brilliant chaser equivalent to Thomire. Ferdinand Bury's attention to detail earned him success. The most remarkable of these feature rich Indian wood mosaic coverings. *
