In-4°, title, 19 ff. n. c., 455 pp, 6 ff. n. c., brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated with cold irons, red morocco title-piece, cold guilloche edges, large foliage decoration in frame with traces of old gilding, gilded coat of arms in center, marbled edges (early 18th century binding). Edition decorated with a vignette on the title and at the head of the epistle, lettering and lamp-ends. Also attributed to Pierre Thomas du Fossé. Bound with the coat of arms of François Lesveillé Desfosses, canon of Autun Cathedral, surrounded by the inscription "EX DONO ET MUNIFIC. D. FRANC LESVEILLE DESFOSSES CAN. ECL. CHAT. AEDUENS 1728". OHR 2143. He was one of the main benefactors of the college in this city. OHR recalls that he "founded in 1728 great annual prizes and had a wood and iron made with his arms, which were used to mark the books distributed in his name". According to Morgan Library museum: this is probably a French translation of "Vita et processus Sancti Thome cantuariensis", Paris 1495/96. Ex libris Jean-Marie Barez, and 5 autograph lines in Latin signed and dry-stamped, probably by a college superior, dated August 26, 1744. Marginal light staining to q. ff. at beginning and end, otherwise a fine, well-bound copy, free from foxing. Photo of front cover with coat of arms
