An artist celebrated for his Arcadian landscapes and a refined animalier painter, Barbiers trained in his father's workshop and is listed as a member of the Guild of St. Luke in Amsterdam from 1786 until 1796, when the influential institution was abolished by Napoleon. A member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts since 1822, Barbiers we know headed an esteemed atelier. The canvases presented here best document the author's landscape talent and delicate rocaille sensibility.
