Cornelis Willaerts trained in the workshop of his father Adam Willaerts, who was devoted to painting seascapes. In 1622 the painter was admitted as a master in the Utrecht guild, and his production manifests a clear Italianate flavor, conceiving small works following the example of Cornelis van Poelenburgh.
