Jasper Broers at the age of 13 went to the workshop of Jan Baptist van der Meiren, who specialized in the landscape genre, and in 1703 became master of the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke. In later years he collaborated with Pieter Verdussen whose sister Catherine, also a painter, he married. Broers is known for his landscapes and allegorical compositions, but he was also one of the leading Flemish battle painters during the first two decades of the 18th century.
