Portrait of Pope VII Chiaramonti (Cesena, 1742 - Rome, 1823)
Oil on canvas, 75X62 cm
Provenance:
Italy, private collection
The painting depicts Pontiff Pius VII Chiaramonti (Luigi Barnaba Chiaramonti). The pope is in the act of blessing with a red mozzetta and ermine lapels, the painting is close to traditional depictions of the pontiff such as those handed down to us by the brush of painter Jean-Baptiste Wicar (1762-1834) and Pietro Labruzzi.
