The portrait with realistic tones is a superb work by Dante Conte, shown at the monographic exhibition organized at the Academy Museum in Genoa. The young girl placed in profile restores a powerful visual effect, including chromatically. Conte, a pupil of Angelo Vernazza, entered the Ligustica Academy of Genoa in 1900 to perfect his skills and later attended Rivalta's Florentine school of sculpture to complete his training. A traveling artist, he sojourned in London and Paris, and it was his Parisian sojourn and Impressionist painting that greatly influenced him, leaving clear traces in his works. His pictorial language can be defined as post-impressionist, with a poetic lyricism of great cultural depth, with which he created landscapes and figures, through an intense ability to deepen the psychological depth of the characters and the masterful use of a dense textural impasto. His works are preserved at the Gallery of Modern Art in Genoa Nervi and in the Civil Hospitals of Genoa Sampierdarena.
