Circle of Philippe Mercier (French, 1689-1760) Portrait of a young child, full-length standing, in a white dress, with a dog and drum beside a pillar oil on canvas 86.5 x 124.5cm Provenance: Anon. sale, Christie's, 11 Jun 2002, lot 14. Condition Report: Overall: 105 x 143cm Some surface abrasions, see illustration. The canvas is lined and in plane. There are some areas of retouching apparent to the eye, mainly to the upper background. Under UV light there are more areas to the lower edge. The surface is covered with a thick layer of varnish which makes any reading under UV light difficult. There may be some further older retouchings in places, however, there is nothing fluorescing strongly. In general, the work is presented in a stable condition and while it may benefit from a light clean, it is ready to hang.
