Austrian Post War Jürgensen, Birgit o.T. 1985. Acrylic on offset paper, partly laid open. 29.5 x 21 cm. Signed and with stamped date and title verso. Mounted in spots on support, mounted in passepartout and framed under glass. - Paper slightly wavy in lower margin due to technique. Studio traces and traces of mounting adhesive in corners verso. Overall very good. Provenance: - Karl & Faber, auction 921 - Private collection, Northern Germany - Galerie Bismarck, Bremen - Acquired directly from the artist's studio. - The Austrian artist Jürgensen is one of the outstanding representatives of the feminist avant-garde. Since the 1960s, she has developed a multi-layered and stylistically diverse art that combines figuration and abstraction in drawings, paintings, photographs and collages. Elements of her art are political, socially critical and show influences of surrealism and action art. Our work dates from her early work, immediately after her studies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where Jürgensen was a lecturer in the master classes of Maria Lassnig and Arnulf Rainer. At this time, she initiated the photography department, which she headed for over 20 years. From the very beginning, her position in and for Austrian and European art was one that played a decisive role in shaping it, and her contributions were of current relevance until her early death in 2003. Spot-mounted to underlying mat and prsented in it, framed under glass. - Paper slightly buckled in lower margin due to technique. On the verso studio traces and traces of mounting in the corners.
