Nitsch, Hermann
1 C-print from: Re-performed painting actions 12th, 14th, 16th, Prinzendorf 1988. 1988. On photographic paper. 25.7 x 17.5 cm. Signed, numbered and with label on verso, there with typographic work details and copyright stamp. Mounted in spots on support, matted and framed under glass. - Corners barely noticeably bumped. Good overall. Splendid print.
One of 40 prints. - The photograph documents Hermann Nitsch's re-enactment of the so-called Malaktionen, which traditionally took place at Schloss Prinzendorf, Austria. The painting action took place on January 24, 1988 and included the re-performances of the three previous painting actions 12, 14 and 16, which were first performed in 1965 at locations in Vienna. The painting actions were the venue for the so-called "Orgien Mysterien Theater", which Nitsch regarded as a festival for the people. In the spirit of Viennese Actionism, he explored the limits of the human body in a hitherto unseen way and made them the subject of his art, with elements often revolving around blood and slaughter.
