LeWitt, Sol
Curved Bands. 1996. oil-based woodcut on thin, soft Japan. 44.5 x 44.5 cm (57.2 x 57.3 cm). Signed and numbered. Almost entirely laminated on support. - In very good condition. Splendid, clear and in places slightly reliefed impression of intense color in the square image, with wide margins.
Krakow 1996.03. - One of 60 copies. - Printed by Kevin Oster, Watanabe Studio Ltd, New York. Published by The Brooklyn Museum, New York. - Also known under the title "Two Centimeter Wavy Bands in Colors". - In his work, which consists of painting, drawing, graphics and sculpture, LeWitt tirelessly explores the almost infinite possibilities of color and line. Like a predetermined, partly mathematically conceived pattern, works of a serial character are created in a richly varied repetition. Our graphics are characterized by curved, broad lines that are reproduced in close-up. The colors are chosen in a broad spectrum of contrasting gradations and result in a moving play of waves.
