ARCHAIC "BI" DISC In jade, partially calcified, marked with veining and brown spots. Decorated around the rim with a "sprouting grain" motif, a regular pattern of spirals in slight relief. China, in the style of the Han Dynasty D. 13.5 cm Provenance : Former Armand Trampitsch Collection. Note: BI discs are symbols of the Celestial Universe. Originally used as ritual objects by Shamans, they were used to celebrate the culture of the Sun and Sky. Usually carved in semi-precious materials, they are attributed virtues that they bring to their owners: happy life, wealth, resistance to disease.
