BEAUTIFUL TWO-LEAF SCHOLAR'S SCREEN
In lacquer and ivory, each leaf decorated on one side with shibayama-type inlays of tinted ivory, mother-of-pearl, hard stones and wood, featuring a brush-holder and incense-burner surmounted by a phoenix, on saddles next to a vase and basket of flowers, on a nashiji lacquer background; the black lacquered undersides are decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e, with quail among flowers and foliage in the light of a silver moon; the ivory frames are decorated in relief with ducks and geese among aquatic plants in the lower part, and the edges with floral and geometric motifs.
