TURBANIZED COURT OF FRANCE (LA), and Betrayals unmasked. In three parts. By Monsr. L.B.D.E.D.E.
Cologne: Pierre Marteau [La Haye: Ad. Moetjens], 1687. In-12, red morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, ornate smooth spine, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges (18th-century binding).
Second edition of this anonymous pamphlet, first published in 1686, on the diplomatic situation in France and Europe following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. At the time, Louis XIV had acquired a certain superiority over Europe, which was likely to wound the susceptibility of European states. In this text, the author attempts to reveal "the horrible intrigues of modern French politics".
A very fine copy in 18th-century red morocco.
Discreet worm's gallery at the hinge of the first cover. Small tear to title.
