PARIS. Louis XIV period.
Silver HOCHET whistler. The octagonal shaft is tapered and decorated with four palmettes. Six openwork brackets hold a bell with radiating gadroon motifs. A frieze of cables highlights the whistle's beak, which is embellished with a mobile ring.
Master stamp twice, illegible. Poinçons de recense des gros et menus ouvrages pour Paris, 1704-1712.
Length: 14.4 cm. Gross weight: 80.20 g. (Damage and missing parts).
Nota bene: one console appears to be missing. However, another soldered in between two slots gives the ensemble very accurate proportions. The object was probably once finished with a mordoir, now missing.
Provenance: Trégor manor house.
