The two MASERATIs of FANGIO and GONZALES started on the second row, but had already overtaken the two FERRARIs on pole. Gonzales has only half a tank of fuel to make a dash for the lead and take the FERRARIs to the scrap heap. In this perspective taken from the dunllop tire overlooking the Circuit de Reims track in 1953, you can see all the cars at the start and the Circuit's infrastructure in its heyday.
