Hieronymus Meser was "A scholar of proficient and versatile knowledge and rich travel experience [he] distinguished himself as the author of historical, geographical, philological and poetic works. We owe him the first edition of Enenkel's Fürstenbuch, the first German edition of Marco Polo's Travels, the first travel manuals (Venice, Naples), the first Turkish grammar.
