Reinhard, professor of theology and philosophy in Wittenberg, since 1792 preacher in Dresden, was one of the most important preachers of his time. His Sunday sermons in front of an audience of 3-4000 listeners were admired throughout Germany. "The dogmatic usually forms the starting point, the moral the core of the reflection and the unification of both the goal" (ADB 28, 34). His controversial Reformation sermon of 1800, which marked a departure from shallow rationalism and the beginning of the rediscovery of Luther in the 19th century, became famous. - Some spotting and browning.
