Early edition of this extremely popular educational book, first published in 1783, in a very beautiful contemporary leather binding. - The present edition is a reprint of the original text version of the first and second legal editions of 1783 and 1786 respectively. The first part with advice on entering the profession and for 'future dealings with people'. The second part contains "curious rules of life from the Earl of Chesterfield's letters to his son" in Campes' adaptation. From the third edition (1790) onwards, the work was completely revised, with Campe removing the Earl Chesterfield's letters and editing them as a separate small work under the title 'Klugheitsregeln für Jünglinge' (cf. KJL III, 157 f.). - Front. with crease, otherwise a good copy.
