Planque,F. Bibliothèque choisie de médecine, tirée des ouvrages périodiques, tant françois qu'étrangers. 10 volumes. With 220 partly multiple folded. Copper plates and 2 tables. 4°. Leather bindings of the period and half leather bindings of the period vols. 9-10, each with 2 spine labels and rich spine gilding. Paris, D'Houry, 1748-1770, Hirsch-H. IV, 623. Blake, p. 354 - First edition of the "very estimable compilation" (Hirsch), which covers all areas and terms of medicine in alphabetical order, excellently illustrated; complete with all volumes rare! - "A fast storehouse of medicine by one of the most gifted French editors. It is arranged in alphabetical order of subjects. Many plates show instruments, operations, plants etc. Many famous earlier and contemporary writers are quoted and small original articles included." (L'Art Ancien Cat. 21: Bibliotheca Medica, No. 670). - The author has dealt extensively with the subject of deformities, monstrosities, etc. and illustrated it with numerous copperplate engravings. This also includes the illustrations of Siamese twins. - Volume 10 edited by Goulin after Planque's death. - Bindings rubbed and partly scuffed, a few capitals and corners with defects, spine gilt slightly off in three volumes. Some stains inside, but overall in good condition. An ex-libris has been removed from 6 volumes. 3 volumes with the printed note on the inside cover: "A. M. Percy, Docteur en Médecine, de l'Academie Royale de Chirurgie, Chirurgien-Major du Régiment de Cavalerie de Berry, à Béthune". Percy (1754-1825) was one of the most famous French military doctors of the Napoleonic era. "He took part in all the campaigns of the Empire until 1815. In 1800 he campaigned for the inviolability of field hospitals" (Hirsch-H. IV, 552).
