German painter of fantastic realism was initially a jazz musician, then a painter. In 1945, shortly before the end of the war, Joe Hackbarth fled from Pomerania to the West. From 1949 to 1957, he worked extremely successfully as a jazz drummer in Wolfgang Lauth's group. In the mid-1950s, Joe Hackbarth turned to painting, and from 1960 to 1965 he tried out various styles before finding his own in the mid-1960s: A young woman with short hair holds a magical instrument in the midst of arcaded architecture with a view of a surreal cityscape. In an attractive gallery frame. D
