Grandson of Jérome Bonaparte and therefore first cousin of Napoleon III, Ferdinand-Sigismond Bach was a writer, draftsman, caricaturist, decorator, lithographer, landscape artist and ironworker. Introduced to Paris by Louis Napoléon Bonaparte, he was hired by Albert Robida for the newspaper La Caricature, and established himself as one of the leading caricaturists of his time, alongside Sem, Forain, Job and Caran d'Ache.
