Bibliography:
Exhibition catalog, Lille, Musée Hospice Comtesse, "Jean Roulland, œuvre sculpté 1961-1991", repr. p. 73.
This work is listed in the catalog raisonné of Jean Roulland's work.
We would like to thank Christian Evrard of the Comité Jean Roulland for his information on this work.
Roulland's tormented faces and deformed bodies take us into the world of the fantastic. This representation of a crucified reality dominates Roulland's work. Working in lost-wax bronze, casting the metal himself, he gives the tormented material pathetic overtones. The artist has exhibited three times at the Musée Rodin in Paris and was awarded the Prix Rodin in 1973.
