Mughal school, 20th century Gifts giving royal court scene Gouache on canvas after 17th century miniature's style, depicting the Mughal emperor or a royal member giving each guest a pearl. size. 77x51.5cm Provenance: Bought from the Chester Beatty Library. NOTE In Persian society, it is very commun to have the giving gifts ceremony. Pīshkash, came to mean a present from someone of an inferior status. In the ninth/fifteenth century, if not before, it came to be used also in the sense of a due or tribute paid to the ruler or his officials.
