BAMILEKE STOOL Cameroon wood, multicoloured beads H: 50cm ***PLEASE NOTE THIS LOT IS NOT ON VIEW AT ST. STEPHEN'S GREEN. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR FURTHER INFORMATION*** NOTE In African art, the Bamileke showcase their expertise through the use of multicoloured beads. This monoxyl seat, known as ‘ru mfo’ among the Bamum and Kuo koko for the Bamileke, features human figurative motifs associated with the chiefdom. The basic structure is carved from wood and then covered with a rabane canvas . This canvas is adorned with a lattice of imported beads and cowries, the latter being an ancient currency symbolising wealth.
