WALU MASK Dogon, Mali Wood H: 76 cm ***PLEASE NOTE THIS LOT IS NOT ON VIEW AT ST. STEPHEN'S GREEN. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR FURTHER INFORMATION*** NOTE In the Dogon language, Walu means antelope. The antelope is a very important animal in Dogon culture and beliefs, and it is often represented in their art and rituals. Our mask features long, curved horns, typical of Walu masks representing an antelope. The presence of a human or animal figure carved on the top of the mask is a characteristic found in some Dogon masks, adding an additional symbolic dimension.
