*CENSOR in cast bronze and chased in two parts, ball-shaped with openwork top. The bases of the two spheres are decorated with a V-shaped motif, three loops for the chains and a top ring for the fourth. Italy, late 12th century H. 14.5 cm (slight accidents) This model is kept in several museums, notably in Vic (inv. no. MEV4418) and Barcelona (inv. no. 12109) (Catalonia, Spain), as well as in Dusseldorf and Nürenberg. Overall, these incense burners testify to a high level of mass production and an efficient export center with good trade links with Catalonia, but also across the northern Alps, as shown by the Chur and Zurich burners; they were also apparently traded on the Rhine. The production center is located in Italy, due to clear technical and decorative similarities with other pieces attested as Italian and preserved in museum collections.
