BOMBE BOX In chased ormolu, decorated with foliage scrolls, engaged pilasters and wildfowl masks at the corners. The lid and sides are adorned with bronze medals featuring Nuremberg patricians in low relief. On loaf feet. 17th century work. Height 16 ; Width 19 ; Depth 12 cm. Restoration. Note. Pictured here are Hieronymus PAUMGARTNER (1498-1565) on the lid; Sebald HALLER (1500-1578) on the left side; Jobst TETZEL (1503-1575). Indeed, during this period of the Holy Roman Empire, Nuremberg was controlled by thirty-five patrician families thanks to trade and printing. Many of them were collectors of German and Italian works. These families enjoyed a monopoly on one of Venice's largest trading posts, the Fontego dei Tedeschi, which proved to be an extraordinary cultural gateway. Our set is therefore at a crossroads, with a probably Italian manufacture and an ornament brought from Germany.
