CHIRVAN KOUBA, circa 1880 Caucasus Late 19th century Wool velvet on wool foundation A marine field with multiple symbols representing the soil and decorated with three rows of stylized flower bulbs in the shape of crenellated ivory and brick-red insect shells, framing a tree in the shape of a fishbone or stylized skeleton. A triple border, the main one a large abraded brick, decorated with geometrically stylized flowering plant sprigs in polychrome.
