PAIR OF MARINE HORSE ANDIRONS
In chased and gilded bronze, on an openwork rocaille base.
With their irons.
Regency period.
H. 40.5 cm.
Wear to gilding
Note: the horses' hooves are webbed in the manner of the horses found on the Marine Triumphs. This model of andirons appears as early as 1747 in an inventory dated May 4, of the Château de Passy.
A similar model is preserved in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Vienna, and another in the Duke of Buccleuch's collection at Boughton Castle.
