Gustav Klingert began his career as a goldsmith by working as a master for
Fabergé, before founding his own workshop in Moscow in 1865. He exhibited at the Paris and then Chicago World's Fairs, and enjoyed great success exporting his creations to the United States through Tiffany & Co. Until 1899, Klingert marked his creations with the Latin characters GK, before replacing them with their Cyrillic equivalent.
