This miniature adorns the lid of an ivory box in poor condition, encircled by tortoiseshell revealing a space for another miniature (now missing).

A pupil of Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin, Mademoiselle Hüe de Bréval exhibited numerous miniatures at the Salon from the time she came of age in 1810 until 1822.
