RARE TABLE D'ACCOUCHÉE PAR CANABAS

in the shape of a kidney, in mahogany and speckled mahogany veneer, decorated with inlaid black fillets. The upper part, known as the "d'accouchée", is removable, with double retractable cambered legs, and opens with two drawers and a folding desk with reversible mirror. The mahogany lower section is supported by flat baluster legs linked by a brace. Copper moldings. Stamped by François-Antoine Canabas, Maître in 1779 and Jurande. Louis XVI period. Total height (legs closed): 74.5 cm Width : 101 cm - Depth : 49 cm (Minor accidents and missing parts, rare restorations) Inscription in white chalk (almost faded) below the accouchee: "Cte de Bondy". At the bottom of the right-hand drawer, two labels: a Chenue label with ink inscription "M. le Comte Jacques de Vienne..." and a typed label stating "Meuble ayant figuré à l'exposition des Grands ébénistes et menuisiers parisiens du XVIIIe siècle au musée des Arts Décoratifs en décembre 1955 - Février 1956 n° du catalog 36 bis (...)". PROVENANCE - Presumed to have belonged to Pierre-Marie Taillepied, comte de Bondy (1766 - 1847). - Collection of Marquis José de la Peña y Perez de Guzman el Bueno, known as "Pépé", cousin of Empress Eugénie, friend and collaborator of Jacques Doucet. Displayed in his apartment on rue Monceau in Paris (Fig.1). - Previous sale, Hôtel Drouot June 17 - 18, 1936, Me Alph. Bellier commissaire-priseur, sold for 19,500 francs. - Collection of Count Jacques de Vienne (1874 - 1965), then by descent to the present day.
