In the late 1780s, Georges Jacob produced "Etruscan-style" furniture inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity, mostly designed by the painter Jacques-Louis David and featured in several of his paintings. In fact, it was the friendship between the two artists and David's powerful protection that enabled Jacob to get through the revolutionary period without worrying too much about his relations with the princes of the royal household and various members of the aristocracy.
