Prior to his first solo exhibition in 1948, Hamri painted murals for the "Moorish cafés" of the colonial era. Subsequently, his exhibitions multiplied in Morocco, Tunisia and Europe. In 1974, he dictated and illustrated a book of folk tales entitled Contes de Joujouka. Hamri uses a variety of techniques in his work, including oil, wood, gouache and watercolor.
