In-4 paperback, dust jacket, paper title on 1st board; (1) title page, 176 pp. [missing pages 57/58 - 113/114 torn]. MANUSCRIT of the 1st volume of this novel composed in 1796, before Élise Duménil (London, 1798) and Horace ou le château des ombres (Maradan, 1822), according to a handwritten note on the title leaf. It remains unpublished: there is no trace of it in the Bnf's general catalog or in the author's biography. Marie-Joséphine de COMARIEU DE MONTALEMBERT (1760-1832), French woman of letters and salonnière, was the 1st wife of Marc-René de Montalembert (1714-1800), and is said to be the model for the Marquise de Montalembert character in Les Nuits de Paris and Rétif de La Bretonne's memoirs. Her novel Élise Duménil received a glowing review in Mme F. B. Briquet's Dictionnaire historique, littéraire et bibliographique des Françaises (1804).
