Mike Sekowsky (1923-1989) began his career as a cartoonist during the Second World War at Timely Comics, the predecessor of Marvel. His first work was Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal, a humorous animal comic. He went on to draw episodes of various characters, including Submariner and Captain America, which appeared in USA Comics, All Winner Comics, Marvel Mystery Comics and other publications. After the war, he worked freelance for Marvel, DC Comics, Dell Comics, Gold Key Comics and Charlton Comics. In 1961 he founded the Justice League of America with scriptwriter Gardner Fox. In 1968 he was appointed editorial manager at DC, in charge of the Metal Men and Wonder Woman series. He then left the title to take charge of Supergirl, but differences of opinion with DC management led to his departure from the company.
