Circle of Jan Borman II (1460-1522), Carved in the round, the saint standing in a contrapposto pose, carrying a tower in her right hand, and a book under her left arm, wearing up braids that fall next to her body, the dress with exposed split sleeves, standing on a low plinth and mounted on a stepped base.Similar in execution to a Virgin and Child group by Jan Borman II from a private collection, and compare with Borman's Saint Margaret of Antioch, ca. 1500, held in the Kapellekerk in Brussels. Noteworthy similarities between this piece and our sculpture are the pregnant belly, pointy pleats, up braids and detailed execution of details in the dress, A fine carved oak figure of Saint Barbara, late 15th century, Brabant, Brussels, H ca. 32 cm, Provenance: Patrick Reijgersberg v.o.f. Antiquiteiten, February 1998, Shallow hole to the back, details of face very slightly worn, only minor traces of polychromy in pleats of dress,
