PROVENANCE Sale, Boisgirard-Antonini, June 12, 2013, lot 21 Private collection, France "In the quiet of his southern retreat [...], Cross revealed all his talent as a watercolorist. Our painter had perhaps been introduced to this technique by his friend Signac, advised by Camille Pissarro in 1888. Cross would have made his first attempts at watercolor painting the following year. Watercolor became a frequent feature of his work around 1895, and an integral and important part and important part of his work from 1903 onwards."
